The guitar is one of the most famous string instruments today. There is the acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar and others, and these different kinds of guitar give good music like all other instruments.
The guitar's fame has spread to many people and these people are looking for ways to learn how to play this instrument. Not all, however, are able to afford the high prices of music schools, but this is not the only way we could learn how to play the guitar.
It is one of the instruments that could easily be self taught. You just have to have a guitar with you and you are all set. Furthermore, since the creation of the internet, almost everything can be learned by just looking at your computer screen. Things are even made easier because video lectures on the net are like having a real teacher in front of you. And with perseverance and hard work from the student, learning the guitar is not a problem at all.
a) Listen to how the chords sound like.
We just cannot have you playing the wrong music can we? Get a copy of several pieces of music; it can simply be those songs that you love. Make sure that the pieces that you obtain include the guitar chords. Then listen to them and familiarize with how the chords sound like when played.
This is going to make playing the chords easier to do. And you would be able to know immediately when you are playing the wrong tune with your guitar. Let us just say that you now have an ear for the right tone of music.
b) Search for the chords on line or on guitar books.
Chords are essential in playing the guitar. One should be able to know by heart the chords from the majors, minors, sharps, flats and others. This is of course done with practice.
First, go and print out all the chords or buy a guitar book which illustrates the chords. You can learn five chords a day and review them everyday before learning a new set of chords.
Reviewing is especially of great help to stick the chords in your head. If you are not so sure that the strings you are pressing are right or not, you could always check the internet especially on youtube.com.
c) When you are done with the chords, learn a simple song.
Notes in chords may be the medium of guitar music, but you can't also make good music with your guitar if you do not know how to strum it. Like most growing musicians, one should start learning the simple music.
Try the nursery rhymes. These should work especially that they require much repetition when sung. Learn to strum with the music and create a melody for the lyrics. Once you know your chords and are flexible in strumming different kinds of music, then you are all set to learn until you can create music with your eyes closed.
