Three Ways To Develop Your Guitar Playing Skills

By now, it might be quite obvious to you that guitar hero doesn't actually make you a guitar player, and neither will it make you a better guitar player. Sure you may know the sound or the lyrics of certain songs much better thanks to the game, but if you really do want to know how to play a guitar, you need to drop that controller and pick up that guitar. Video games aren't worth squat if all you do is keep playing and playing and playing.

There are a lot of ways to try and learn how to play a guitar. Most commonly, here are a few things or mindsets that might actually help you get better with handling a guitar.

1. Practice, practice, practice.

You've probably heard this a million times already during your whole life. However, there's a good reason as to why you're reading this for the million and first time. That's because there's nothing more effective than practicing for whatever it is you plan on getting better at. It doesn't really matter if you're trying to solve an algebra or physics equation; practice will definitely make you a whole lot better in whatever field you're in.

With playing the guitar, practice is definitely the key to getting better and ultimately sounding awesome quite frankly. Not all of us are born with an innate talent for playing with six strings like it were Tetris. With practice, we become more familiar with what we're doing. It makes us feel more comfortable with our instruments and it builds up our confidence.

2. Always learn the basics before you skip to the more advanced stuff.

Surely you would want to learn how to play the guitar to be able to play your favorite songs or even possibly create your own melody. However, Rome wasn't built in a day. And you are no exception friend. It doesn't matter if you're playing basketball or picking up a guitar, the fundamentals are always a very important thing that each and every one of us must strive to master. Only from there can we further refine our talent and be able to play difficult chords or tunes on a guitar. Even Jimi Hendrix or Carlos Santana once had to start somewhere before they eventually grew up to become juggernauts in the guitar playing world. If you want to be as great as they are, you definitely need to start at the very first – the basics. You've got to learn how to crawl before you know how to walk now, right?

3. Find some new material to work with once you've mastered your previous ones.

One way to remain skilled and quite good at the guitar is by constantly learning new things to play. If you just stick to what you've learned and yet you wouldn't even try to experiment with new things, your skill level would never rise any further than where it is right now. Learning new things would mean that you are further improving yourself as a musician.
