Because of its unique design, Dustbowl can be switched immediately from a splash-like cymbal hybrid to an instant crasher by dropping it onto any cymbal over 12" and playing the cymbal as usual or whacking it directly for a nasty crasher sound. The crasher mode works especially well on hi-hats. You can also try dropping the Dustbowl cymbal onto a tom or snare. Note: If you use Dustbowl on a tom, the tom will need to tilt a bit flatter than usual or it can slide off. Some think the crasher mode of Dustbowl used on drums gives an almost electronic sound to drums.
